Coupons and codes

A coupon is a code the customer types, as against a discount everybody sees. Use a code when you want to control who gets it: a referral, a returning client, a partner organization. Make it short and sayable, because you will be reading it out. Codes are not secret, so anything you give one person will eventually be used by somebody else.
